How to teach your daughter(s) to host a tea party with confidence while they are young!

Above all our daughter(s) deserve an opportunity to build confidence!

As a result of this desire I decided to use a Tea Party to build confidence.

On the whole executing a Tea Party would require planning, budgeting, hosting, and executing the event.

All while creating memories together!!!

Who is the party planner?

First thing to remember who is the party planner? You will assign that title to your daughter.

What a great opportunity to teach your daughter(s) how to plan, budget, create, and execute a party!!!

Secondly, you will receive the title of assistant party planner!

  • Rules for the Assistant Party Planner
    • Plan for each activity to take twice as long.
    • Be patient as you teach, your goal is to build confidence
    • Keep it simple.
    • Look at your daughter with your mother eyes.

Foundational rule for any party!

Basically this rule is key to any party.

Ask each party planner(s) and/or assistant planner(s),

“What is the most important part of the activity to you?”

Once you have this information make sure these important parts happen.

  • Example: When you know your daughter really wants chocolate covered strawberries and a fancy drink, it makes it easy to compromise on the fancy china and decorations.

Create a Tea Party Outline

Then onto the party outline!

Sit down with the Party Planner(s) and Assistant Party Planner(s) and answer the following questions together.

  • Where would you like to have your tea party?
    • What’s the weather like? Is grandmas house bigger? etc.
  • When would you like to have your tea party?
    • Associate it with a season like spring?
  • What foods would you like there?
    • Sweet and Savory ideas.
  • What fancy drink do you like?
  • What activity would be fun?
    • Poem reading, book to read, story telling, dance party, etc.
  • Who would you like to invite?
    • How many people can you accommodate?
  • Any special ideas you have?

Hooray, you have created a wonderful outline for your Tea Party!

Creating the invitations

Now that we have the party planner established, rules, and outline set lets get the invitations going!

  • Should you type an invitation?
  • Should you create an invitation by hand then copy it?
  • Will you hand deliver or mail them?

To emphasize this is a great opportunity for your daughter(s) to take the lead. As assistant party planner you can write a rough draft of the information and provide the needed supplies. After that just step back and admire their work.

At length you will build confidence through the action of trying/doing. This is the invitation my daughter created by herself. She was SO proud.

Gathering items for the tea party

Especially important, start with what you have!

Be creative, repurpose or move decorations around your home. Ask friends or family to borrow any additional needed supplies.

Unless decorations are your important part of the activity don’t overdo it. Keep it simple.

Preparation days

For the most part the Party Planner(s), your daughter(s), will need you during this step. Think of yourself as the behind the scenes Assistant Party Planner who does most of the heavy lifting.

Suggestions to involve your daughter(s) in preparation days…

  • Take them with you to gather needed supplies.
  • Have them do a practice run of the table setting and decorations.
  • Cut and prepare the food together. You can cut and they can assemble platters/kabobs.

Obviously but very important… remember each activity will take twice as long. It’s worth your time!

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

What to have your daughter(s) do the day of the tea party.

All of a sudden Tea Party day is here! The excitement is thick. Discuss the suggested items below with your daughter(s). Then step back and watch providing gentle encouragements or help when needed.

Remember its okay to let them figure out what to do!

Jobs to give them on party day…

  • Of course give them big jobs, like setting the table and place settings.
  • Walk through an outline of how the party should flow.
  • Have them lead the Tea Party from that outline.
  • Optional: Have them role play a greeting, conducting, or anything else.
  • Teach them how to greet their guests at the door.
  • Discuss what conversation to have at the table.
  • Then after everyone leaves teach them how to clean up after a tea party. This can be fun with music or discussion about what was their favorite part of the tea party?

Final thoughts

In reality your daughter(s) are growing up fast! A Tea Party is a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, celebrate their youthfulness, while developing skills of planning, hosting, and executing an event.

To sum up, your time together and building their confidence are priceless.
