“Am I having a Miscarriage?” 5 signs to look for!

5 signs you are having a miscarriage

“Am I miscarrying?”, This is the question that will plague every woman’s pregnancy.

So, how do you know if you are having a miscarriage???

For reference, a Miscarriage is the loss your pregnancy before the 20th week of gestation. (Source)

Signs you may be miscarrying.

It is important to note that every woman, and every pregnancy, are different. These miscarriage signs are not a one size fits all, but they are a good indicator that you should seek additional support from your doctor.

1. Cramping:

Cramping will be similar to your mensural period in pain, Mild to Sever.

They may be more spaced out in the beginning then increase in frequency.

2. Spotting:

Spotting blood is literally a red flag something is not right!

Pay attention to the amount, frequency, and color (dark vs. bright red).

3. Headaches & Moody:

As your body struggles with the hormone fluctuation you may have headaches and/or be moodier than normal. These can also be signs of a normal pregnancy. We can hope, right!

Advice: Document all symptoms, time of day, frequency, & amount. (Tip: Use the miscarriage specific daily journal in the guidebook.)

4. Not sick enough:

This was a BIG sign for me, but that might not be true for you.

In general by week 8 of pregnancy you should feel your body is responding to the fast rising HCG levels. It’s common to be nauseous, sensitive to smells, fatigued, and have an overall blah feeling.

To clarify, by not being sick enough that means your HCG levels have plutoed and/or begun to drop.

5. Something just feels off

With each pregnancy comes the lingering fear that miscarriage is a real possibility.

Having said that you can have an equally fair chance of having a successful healthy pregnancy.

So, pay attention to your body and it’s cues. (And write them down to keep a record! )

If you feel like something is just off go to the doctor and press them for further tests. Your peace of mind is work it!

*Sad but true! Your pregnancy can be progressing great and with no warning signs you miscarry. Unfortunately it is a hard truth. Just read my miscarriage #5.

Ultimately, an ultrasound is one of the best ways to confirm a miscarriage and rule out any other complications, like molar or ectopic pregnancy.

Personally, I had an ultrasound with 3 of my 5 miscarriages. This is up to you and the unique symptoms you are demonstrating.
